Me and the Family Tree honors family connections while celebrating what makes each child uniquely themselves.

Me and the Family Tree is a warm, inclusive celebration of family roots written by award-winning children’s author and 2025–2026 Young People’s Poet Laureate Carole Boston Weatherford, and illustrated by Ashleigh Corrin. Through gentle rhyme and vibrant illustrations, a young narrator reflects on the traits she shares with her family — while also honoring what makes her wonderfully unique.

As children follow along, they’re invited to recognize themselves in their loved ones and feel pride in where they come from. The story beautifully affirms love, security, and connection, offering young readers a sense of belonging rooted in ancestry and care.
